History
In 1883, the Sisters of
Charity of Leavenworth came to Denver to build a safe haven for orphaned
children. 120 years later, Mount Saint
Vincent
Home continues this tradition of charity by providing both residential
and day-treatment services for children struggling with severe emotional
and behavioral difficulties.
The classrooms used by Mount Saint Vincent Home are in a 100-year-old
building located in northwest Denver, Colorado.
The staff
has relied upon energy-inefficient window air conditioner units to cool
critical spaces such as the computer room, library and offices. However,
the classrooms have no such cooling. Each of the classrooms has six
large windows with thin glass panes and very high ceilings. Further, given the size of these rooms
and the natural inefficiencies of window units, the air conditioners
could not begin to provide the proper cooling to facilitate a
comfortable teaching
and learning environment.
Coolerado Cooling
During the summer of 2003, a
team was assembled to install a Coolerado Cooler C676 in the attic to
provide cooling to two classrooms and the computer lab.

The
Coolerado Cooler C676 cooled the rooms to a desirable temperature of 74°F. The system is quieter than the window air
conditioner or room evaporative coolers that had
been used on occasion.
The end result is a better learning environment for the children of
Mount Saint Vincent Home.
The Team
Coolerado, the Colorado Governor's Office of Energy Management and Conservation, MSE
(Mountain States Equipment Company), Hercules Industries, Genesee Heating and Cooling,
and the Farnsworth Group worked together to serve the Mount Saint
Vincent Home.
